Students for Sensible Drug Policy | 2010-Present

Contribute to the University of Michigan’s effort to end the war on drugs by encouraging students to vote by providing relevant information regarding new drug proposals.

Proyecto Avance: Latino Mentoring Association (PALMA): Volunteer| 2011-2012

Volunteered twice weekly to tutor Latin American families in the Ann Arbor area to speak English. Tutoring sessions were primarily conducted in Spanish.

University of Michigan Health System: Volunteer | 2013-2014

Volunteered in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department assisting the charge nurse with day-to-day activities. Responsibilities included assisting patients in their rooms per request, facilitating the tasks of the nursing staff, as well as checking equipment and preparing patient rooms.

The Home of New Vision | 2013-Present

Work at the Home of New Vision Engagement Center Outpatient Detoxification Facility for patients suffering from a variety of drug and alcohol addictions. Patient contact responsibilities include intake and discharge paperwork, and hourly monitoring of heart rate, blood pressure, blood alcohol content and relative intoxication levels. Transportation to the emergency room or respective detoxification facilities is expected on a case-by-case basis. Most importantly, responsibilities include engaging in motivational interviewing while devising a patient-specific recovery plan.

Asociacion Profesionales Solidarios: Volunteer | 2014

Provide support and sustenance to community members in Madrid, Spain who have been subjected to live in the streets as a result of the economic crisis. All volunteer sessions were conducted entirely in Spanish. 

Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility | 2014 – Present

Volunteer to lead four Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups each week in the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility, the only female prison that is considered to be part of the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). In addition to regular NA group proceedings, such as working the twelve steps of recovery and participation in open group and sharing, responsibilities include inmate monitoring and attendance. Groups are considered “closed” and thus during the meeting, I am the sole authority figure in the room.
